Snow Apocalypse has come to Austin for the 2nd time this year! We got 6 inches overnight with a low of 8 degrees this morning.

The power is out all over town. Driving anywhere is out of the question. Our water heater is frozen and not working…but we are having SO much fun!

Apparently, the last time Austin got this much snow was 1949! No one is used to this kind of weather here, so it’s SUPER special and absolutely beautiful.

I love days like this where we are reminded of the power of Mother Nature. Where we are reminded how small and insignificant we are in the grand scheme of it all. AND are forced to slow down, reconnect, and be present for the gift of another day.

Feeling blessed to be stuck inside with @awakenwithjp, Wilder, our pups, and my parents who are visiting from California.

Veda is SO happy! She loves romping in the snow and catching snowballs. JP cold plunges in the pool every morning no matter how low the temp drops. I think it’s time to build a snowman!

Day 2 of the Snow Apocalypse 2021

4 million people in Texas have been without power for the last 24 hours with temps dropping to historic lows. We still don’t have hot water, and won’t until it gets above freezing outside… (so I haven’t showered in 2 days 😂)… But, we are extremely grateful for electricity and our amazing community of neighbours and friends supporting each other through this freak storm.

Our grocery stores were packed a few days ago as people prepped for the storm, but I doubt anyone thought this many people would be without power for so long.

Texas cities are just not prepared for this weather, so roads are not cleared, the airports are closed, and most people are stuck inside unable to drive anywhere.

More snow is supposed to come in tonight, so we are stocking up on more food today, and firewood if we can find it. I’m grateful to have an all-wheel-drive car so we can get to the grocery store.

I feel fortunate and worry about those who don’t have electricity, firewood, or access to food.

I think about the families with infants, like Wilder, who are bundling up their little ones, cuddling by their fireplace to sleep, and eating canned soup.

It’s times like these that bring out the humanity in us all. The loving hearts that reach out to support each other and unite during difficult days.

Today, like every day, I’m counting my blessings!

Grateful for a warm home, a fridge full of food, clean water, laughs with my family, snuggles with Wilder, and walks in the snow.

Day 3 of Snow Apocalypse 2021

The big adventure of the day is driving to the grocery store with my dad on icy roads to see if we can stock up on more fresh food, water, diapers, and baby wipes.

Our power is still on, our water heater thawed enough for 2 showers this morning, now we have no water in the house. We might be melting snow on the stove to wash the dishes. Though we had a good supply of food and water stocked up from a few months ago, we are low now. The lines at the few grocery stores that are open were hours long yesterday so we turned around and decided to wait.

Check my stories to hear more about what’s happening in Texas. Millions of people have been without power for up to 3 days now, but luckily it’s getting warming and we are sitting around 32 degrees today.

@awakenwithjp is supposed to fly out early tomorrow morning for his comedy shows in Alabama, but we are still waiting to see if the flight is cancelled since the airport has been closed the last few days.

My biggest takeaway from this experience is that you can never be too prepared. Stocking up on water, food, flashlights, firewood, a backup generator, etc is vital. If you think this can’t happen to you, think again.

With the climate shifting around the globe we’ll all be experiencing more severe weather. Whether it’s fires, floods, ice storms, earthquakes, hurricanes or tornadoes, being prepared is essential nowadays.

I’m praying for all those without power, food and water. Stay warm and safe y’all. Reach out if you need support and help. We are all in this together!

Much Love,

Amber Sears
