Nothing gets me amped for a tough workout like music. Preferably hair thrashing rock or upbeat pop. If only I didn’t need to spend priceless time recreating playlists that will mesh with my chosen workout. Lifting weights requires quite a different animal then lets say long distance running. That’s where BODiBEAT comes into play…literally.
Yamaha just unveiled a combination MP3 player and heart rate monitor that synchronizes the songs played to the movement of your sweat session. The BODiBEAT uploads your music library like every other player, but then takes it a step further by selecting songs that match the steps per minute of the user’s workout.
The gadget harbors synchronization technology that detects impact. So unfortunately it only syncs during activities like rope jumping, running, and walking, not bicycling or weight lifting. Otherwise it plays music normally and acts as a heart rate monitor to boot. You can also preset an interval workout so the BODiBEAT keeps you at an ideal pace.
I could definitely do without scrambling to change a song mid jog, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to give up my Ipod Touch for a bulkier alternative. The design is reminiscent of the dinosaur tape/CD players of the past. Especially for a whopping $300 dollars! All the Ipod Touch needs is an application that senses motion. So to all of you app coders out there… steal my idea!
Would you sport one?
