My black Nike Free’s are covered in dust and worn through after a 4 mile hike up Mt. Kuchuma here at Rancho La Puerta this morning. They were well loved, but it’s time for a new sole supporting pair. I’ve also already blown through my Epic Self shoes I designed a few months back. How fast do you turn over athletic shoes? I’m averaging a pair per month.
Though I don’t run, my San Francisco hill speed walking coupled with monthly trips to the sun scorched trails at the ranch do the damage.
I had a blast designing my last pair of Nike Free’s with the NIKEiD customization platform, so I figured why not try out their latest shoe, the Lunar Glide +4. It’s ridiculously easy to create your own kicks. Check out my creative process…
Do I want solid or the fade for my upper? I’m going for fade, but definitely not these colors.
Then my favorite part, the tongue ID. Last time I chose Epic and Self. My initials felt perfect today and this color combo is breezy for Summer.
Should I go for the watermelon? An electric swoosh?
Yes I have big feet. I’m 5′ 8.
And while picking colors was difficult, it was easy to decide between a responsive or cushioned sole. I’m all about minimal, light weight shoes, so the responsive option was perfect. Did you see the flywire lacing system for an adaptive fit? So sweet.
I swapped back to my original sole colors and checked out. Done in literally 10 minutes, though I could have played with the design tools for hours. I can’t wait for them to arrive so I can literally glide above the pavement.
Have you ever thought about designing your own pair? What do you think of my simple classic design?
