Over the last year or so pole dancing has become rampant in popularity. Gyms offering these dance moves have been swamped with women eager to have fun, and feel sexy while working out. But today there is a new star in town, Pilates on the Pole. Mix the core strengthening, muscle toning and lengthening of Pilates with a silver pole and you’ve got a tough, whole body workout that will bring out your inner pussycat doll.
While I don’t think Joseph and Clara Pilates ever imagined their methods would be transformed into this type of a workout, the Pilates on the Pole classes are known to kick some serious butt. The mother-daughter team of Karen and Nicole Leto founded the Pilates-on-the-Pole technique and offer classes at their studio in Newport Beach, CA. Their classes are built on core stability from the Pilates mat and the aerobic, resistance training of the seductive art of pole dancing.
What would be pole pilates without the platform stripper heels, you ask? Nothing, which is exactly why all participants wear them. Don’t have your own pair? No need to fret, the Leto’s studio has extra pairs behind the front desk and even sells the neon heels! While it may be super fun to play the naughty girl, Pilates on the Pole is a very serious workout that demands strict attention to alignment, core strength, and coordination.
