It’s well known in the interior design world that color has a huge impact on the mood in a space. Ocean blues in the bedroom set the scene for dreamy nights, while bright yellow brings energy to an otherwise dull kitchen.

Color has a more profound influence on us then you might think. Directly influencing our confidence, stress, and happiness. Just like colors in the home, what we wear in the outside world can effect our internal space throughout the day.

Based on colortherapy and feng shui principles of the five elements (water, wood, fire, metal, and earth) check out the ways each color can help balance and boost the mind, body and spirit.

Black/Dark Blue:Wear to enhance communication or support your career. I knew there was a reason everyone in the financial district wears black suits!

Green: Wear to help new projects get started successfully, or to bring new energy to a situation. Green is the color of plants and trees, symbols of growth. Also good for balancing emotions and relaxing tense muscles.

Red:Wear if you want to get noticed, enhance luck, or feel strong and confident. Red sports cars are always speeding ticket targets! Use that power to your advantage.

White: Wear if you want to enhance your creativity. Artists and writers everywhere, listen up.

Pink: Wear if you want to be surrounded in romance. The color of love in a lacy bra, hello gorgeous! Lure Mr./Mrs. Right directly to you.

Brown: Wear to help you feel grounded and secure. I think like half my closet is brown…I swear it just looks good on my skin.

Orange: Wear if you want to be more of a joyous social butterfly. You can’t help but smile in orange!

Yellow:Wear for increased self esteem and mental clarity or focus. I’m definitely stocking up on yellow accessories.

Blue:Wear to calm nerves. Gotta big presentation coming up? A blue scarf or tie would be divine.

Lavender: Wear to ward off stress and induce calm. Perfect for a silky nightgown. You’ll be sleeping like a baby.

When you’re staring at your closet in the morning, remember to pay attention to your own preferences. Feng Shui might recommend you wear a red suit to your job interview, but if you hate red you’re not going to feel confident! Draw on the power of colors without dressing in it head to toe by wearing (insert the color you want to utilize):
– Underwear
– Shoes
– A purse
– Jewelry or watch band
– Belt or necktie
– Scarf
Happy dressing!
