Ahh wrinkles. The age old beauty problem that plagues us as we age. Most of us, guys and girls alike, have “started young” with the anti wrinkle creams, microdermabrasion, and chemical peels for fear of gasp(!) deepening our already developing Crow’s Feet. However, it’s time for some new facelifting habits!

The truth of the matter is that, we all want a radiant, healthy complexion….and some will do just about anything to achieve it, including going under the knife or injecting ourselves with neurotoxins (botox). Luckily there are several things you can do everyday to prevent and combat wrinkles that doesn’t include expensive creams, or surgery. Take care of your face naturally with these simple behavior modifications.

Sleep On Your Back: As a diehard stomach sleeper this kills me! But it’s oh so true that sleeping on your side or stomach can cause wrinkles. Ever wake up with creases from your pillow case? While these babies may fade fairly quickly now, over time they’ll join the other permanent members of the wrinkle clan on your face.

There are a plethora of seriously hilarious solutions to keep you from smashing your face every night. Pure silk pillowcases are thought to keep your face slipping and sliding so the skin can’t stick to a certain spot like with a cotton case. Contoured foam pillows and buckwheat eye masks have also been used with relative success. Getting enough sleep is frankly way more important to your overall health and aging skin. So if you can’t remedy sleeping on your face, just make sure you’re sleeping 7-9 hours a night.

Protect Those Pretty Peepers: One of the easiest ways to prevent crows feet and that line between the eyebrows is to simple stop squinting. Easy quick fix: rock your stellar shades when it’s bright outside and pick up the right eye glass prescription. Keep up with your eye check-ups and stave off wrinkles? A fabulous win-win!

Say No To Straws: Sipping through straws though it may be neat (and sexy!) purses one’s lips in the same way smokers puff on cigarettes. Too much lip puckering and you’ll set those small vertical lines in place for good. Switch to wide mouthed cups and don’t smoke (of course!).

Give It A Good Rub Down: Stress has us holding tension all over the body. Typically most people tense in the shoulders, neck, and face. Hello furrowed brow! Long day? Use this quick do-it-yourself face massage from VideoJug.com to relax the small facial muscles and fascia.

Tone Up: Doesn’t it makes sense that if we work so hard to keep our body in shape and toned, that the tens of facial muscles should be worked as well? While not scientifically proven, advocates of face workouts, keep wrinkles at bay by pumping up the underlying muscles. Building strong face muscles tones and uplifts the face naturally, bringing the skin with it. Facercise brings oxygen and blood to the face, essentials in building collagen and creating a gorgeous glow. The proof is in the pictures.

Forget the botox, which only numbs the muscles (letting them atrophy), and try this fun face workout. Researching for this article got me hooked on facercise. Here’s one of my favorite series from none other than my hero Jack La Lanne, the grandfather of fitness.

Sun exposure and smoking are the number one causes of wrinkles. So slap on that 30 SPF and toss the cigarettes. If all else fails just smile and laugh a lot. Then you’ll have lines in the right places!
