Setting aside time to meditate everyday is an awesome way to clear and calm the mind and emotions. Stress and anxiety run ramped in today’s society and meditations are one way we can bring balance back into our lives.
You have probably heard a lot about meditation and would like to reap its benefits, but just haven’t set aside the time to practice. Rest assured you don’t need to start out with a regimented practice of 20 minutes twice a day to change your state of mind. Start out slow with 5-10 minute sessions that can be easily incorporated during a lunch break or bus ride. You also don’t need to sit in a specific position, on a pillow, with incense blazing (though a calm setting helps). Meditation can be fun and creative. It’s all about you finding what works best for you and your circumstances.
Try these unique meditations to spice up a tired meditation practice or inspire you to pick up the habit:
Focusing On An Object: You can use any object of focus, although you should find something that inspires you. This could be a flower, a beautiful picture, a religious figure, a photograph or painting from nature- whatever connects with you. The flame of a candle is incredibly popular for this meditation. As you calm your mind, gently focus on the object. Allow your mind to settle and peacefully relax. Whenever you find that you are distracted, gently bring your attention back to the chosen object.
Nataraj Meditation: Dance, giving it all you have got, is an easy and natural way to turn inward. This specific method from the revered spiritual teacher Osho, has three stages and lasts a total of sixty-five minutes. I’m sure you could probably cut down the practice time and cut a rug whenever.
Forget the dancer, the center of the ego; become the dance. That is the meditation. Dance so deeply that you forget completely that you are dancing and begin to feel that you are the dance. The division must disappear; then it becomes a meditation.
If the division is there, then it is an exercise: good, healthy, but it cannot be said to be spiritual. It is just a simple dance. Dance is good in itself as far as it goes it is good. After it, you will feel fresh, young. But it is not meditation yet. The dancer must go, until only the dance remains. Don’t stand aside, don’t be an observer. Participate! And be playful. Remember the word playful always with me it is very basic.~Osho
