Having a hard time making ends meet? Join the club. As more and more people are turned upside down and shaken for loose change by the current economy, the last thing on all of our minds is tossing extra money towards charities. Volunteering is out of the question since most of us would willingly saw off our pinkie toe for a 25 hour day. Besides, any extra time is probably better spent working for more groceries and gas money.
So what are charities supposed to do in the meantime? Suck it up, work below their means and get creative with ways to raise money.
One of the most ingenious new ways charities are gathering support is through the web. With no cost out of pocket you can now show your support by spreading the word about a certain issue. A lot of you have probably seen this idea in use on Facebook. You can become a fan of certain organizations like The Red Cross, AIDS research organizations, etc. Some charities are even joining hands with large companies to gather support.

For example, Electrolux (yes the appliance maker) just revealed a web campaign to help support the cure for ovarian cancer. For every virtual lemonade stand that is opened in support of the cause Electrolux will donate $1.
I just set up my lemonade stand on Electrolux’s site. Fast, easy and no need to break my beloved pink piggy bank. Brilliant!
Why care? Because what you give and put out into the world is what you get in return. I am a firm believer in giving and talk a lot about sending out positive energy into the universe. The more we give to others the more we gain in spirit. Whether it’s a friend needing a help moving, an oil drenched seagull, or an organization working towards a cure for breast cancer, monetary giving isn’t the only way to show you care and support something.

Being kind, gracious, and compassionate towards all people and critters in your life is a simple way to give back. Even in these tough times we can all give something…even if it’s just a smile 😀
