An Ode’ To My Loving Family And Friends
Time: Midnight
ring…ring…ring…
Me: “Sorry to wake you Mom, but I just had an epiphany….I’m moving out of the country.”
Mom: “What? Wow…tell me everything!”
These are the moments. The times when you are on the brink of doing something profound, or so you think, and all you want is support. It’s these vital moments that I give EXTRA thanks for the amazing people in my life. For their willingness to listen, question and then ultimately give me an emotional push. Family and friends help you clarify your intentions and solidify your resolute to follow through with your dreams. When you start to lose faith in your own endeavors they are there to do what they can to help. Even if that means a two hour talk at midnight!
I’m on the brink. The edge of launching into life. Out of college for two years now and finally finding my footing in the real world. Standing on my own two feet… and damn does it feel amazing. A strange shift has started to occur in my family though. A change for the better. For the first time in my life the support I need and want from my family doesn’t include money. Tossing money my way will no longer do the trick. What I and most of us need is true emotional support. A hug and push in the journey of life.
With Mother’s day coming up I figured an ode’ to amazing family and friends was in order. Here are some little things we all can do to show those around us how much we appreciate their endless support.

1.) Skype: This is my new favorite way to call my parents who recently moved to Colorado. Seeing their faces makes a world of difference! Something I will become accustomed to when I take off around the world. One of my best friends agreed that video interfaces like Skype and WebEx have improved her relationship with her dad tenfold since she has been abroad. Interesting how distance instantly makes you want to connect more!
2.) Photo Book: One of my new favorite ways to make memories last is with an iPhoto picture book. Organize photos of you and your friends/family…write some clever descriptions, pick a template and viola….Apple has made it easy to make a gorgeous bound book of pictures created by you. Design and send it off for an amazing gift sure to bring loads of smiles.
3.) Written Word: You don’t need to be Shakespeare to write something from the heart. Pick up a card or make one and take some time to brainstorm. From fold to fold…fill the entire card with your thoughts about the given person. When you put thought into your written word, it shows! Ask yourself why this person is so important to you and thank them for their fantastic spirit and support. Let them know how you really feel about them, because it could be the last time you talk to them! Life is too short to keep your love to yourself.
Happy Mothers Day to all those incredible women out there!
Who is your biggest fan and how have you shown them you appreciate it? Actions do speak louder than words…I’d love to hear!
