Ahhhh water… the cool, replenishing fluid that’s necessary for survival. Just thinking of water makes me happy, but sadly I must confess my total lack of gulping down the recommended daily amount. As we all probably know by now it’s recommended to drink 8 eight ounce glasses of water per day. To get all of that fabulous H20 into my day has been challenging to say the least.

Today we all tend to live really high pace lives, cramming as much into the day as humanly possible. Beyond all the long days at work, we have to find time for exercise, chores, kids, friends, etc… I sometimes wonder how we do it all! I am the first one to say I am a definite workaholic who is incredibly physically active everyday. To sustain all of our activity we NEED water! I find myself thirsty all the time and tend to reach for food instead of what I really need. Does anyone else have this problem?

So today I have decided to change my ways and make drinking water more of a priority.

Here’s why:

We Need Water: Water is your body’s principle chemical component, comprising 60 percent of your total weight. Every cell and therefor system in your body depends on water to function. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.

Amount: How much water you should consume daily will depend on how much you exercise and the temperature of your various environments. Every day you lose water through your breath, perspiration, urine and bowel movements. For your body to function properly, you must replenish its water supply by consuming beverages and foods that contain water. A good rule of thumb is to drink enough water so you don’t feel thirsty. Also, fruits and veggies are a great source of water. On average, food provides about 20 percent of total water intake, while the remaining 80 percent comes from water and beverages of all kinds.

Dehydration: This is me! If you feel thirsty you are already slightly dehydrated.
Signs and symptoms of dehydration include:
Mild to excessive thirst
Fatigue
Headache
Dry mouth
Little or no urination
Muscle weakness
Dizziness
Lightheadedness
Wow… water is amazing! If you are a workaholic and workout-aholic like me than we need to drink even more water. Drinking the recommended amount of water will definitely benefit your fitness routine, plus your mind and spirit! Those muscle cells will be nicely hydrated and oxygenated to optimize your workout.
Here are some tips to make sure you get all the water your body needs:Sigg bottles
1.) Drink a glass with each meal and one inbetween.
2.) Hydrate before, during, and after working out.
3.) Substitute water for all of those other crave worthy drinks like coffee and tea which depending on your choice will dehydrate you more.
4.) Carry a bottle of H20 with you all day; at the office, in the car, at the gym, etc.
5.) Use a reusable water bottle that you can wash and refill everyday. It will cut down on the cost of buying bottled water, and reduce the amount of plastic thrown in land fills.
Try a Sigg!
I hope you will join me in my quest to stay hydrated!
